I was presenting my research paper in one of the conference organized in Chengdu, China which was held from 15 until 17 April 2011.

This is my first experience attending an international conference. The presentation was good and even better compared presenting it at national level. Why? Most of the presenter especially the Chinese cannot deliver their presentation very well because of English problem...So it has limit their delivery even though their research is superb! So, i take this opportunity to build some confident as it can over shadow all the weaknesses in my research paper ;)...'mulut' is very important..kekekkekekekke

Some updates

I was trying to find a space for writing some updates here. Lately i felt that i had extremely utilized my thinking capability to dig out some ideas on final year project for my final year students.

i still remember during my time few years ago, it was not easy to find the suitable title for final year project. Fortunately my supervisor at that time, Cik Marina suggested me a title called newsletter system. My first impression about my title is, i have to develop an online system for newsletter. However, Cik Marina was asking me, what is the research element within your title? I could not answer at that time...What i know is, development, since software development skill is very important for me and this is what the IT companies are looking for.

However, Cik Marina was not really insist about the research elements in my system development at that time, you know as a student, i just only thinking about the functionality...

And...after pursuing my master degree, the same thing was happened again when i'am doing my dissertation. I still remember Dr.laila, our head of program was said "no...it is ONLY development"...At this point, i was already understand what is called as research element....

And now..... I could not expect too much from my fyp students. I had gone through all these hard times for completing fyp....

DR J, one of my colleague here said "most of the students won't learn during the class, they will rather bringing whatever they get from the class to be studied at home, therefore you have to prepare a complete set of notes and exercises for them to study at home".

Yes, I got to admit I never make the notes complete. But why? Because I had learn from the previous semester experience. Last time, I was giving everything to my students. I allowed them to open the book during test and quizzes, I accepted their project although most of them used other subject's assignment to be presented to me! I marked their exam with a full consideration and kasih sayang by only pointing out their keyword.

I love them so much although sometimes I felt I'm giving lecture to the hall. When I'am asking them a question, later there will be no response and I will be the one who giving the answer to my own question. When I allowed them to make a group discussion, they just shut their voice off but when I'm asking them to shut down their mouth they will keep on chit chatting, making unnecessary things during my lecture. Apa kau ingat sia patung?

I'am not a perfect student during my time, I was also a passive student but at least I respect my lecturer. Yes, saya pun sama juga, kalau dua jam lecture mungkin 10 minit saja saya concentrate, but at least I did not making a noise, did not distracting the other students focus.

When I'am not giving a complete solution in their notes please don't complain! It is purposely to be made like that okay! Why. because I want my students to concentrate my teaching, because I will give all the solutions through my BIG MOUTH and please also open up your eyes besar besar tinguuuuu apa yanggg siaaa tulisss di white board. Bapakkk kau hantar kau pigi sini untuk balajarrrrrr. Banyakkk cantekkk kau semua benda mau sia suap dalam lubang mulut kau???

Our perpectives of Hari Raya

Aidilfitri is a Muslim holiday that marks the end of Ramadan, the Islamic holy month of fasting. Around the world, there are many names to refer to this day, which is one of the most important festival for Muslims.

In Malay-speaking countries of Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, and Brunei Eid is often called as Hari Raya, which literally means “Big Day” or “Celebration Day”.

Fasting during the month of Ramadhan is compulsory or wajib, whereby Muslims are required to abstain from satisfying their most basic needs and urges, daily, between sunrise and sunset. It is one of the five tenets of Islam; as is the paying of zakat (alms tax for the poor), which must be tithed by the end of Ramadhan.

In Malaysia, the period of fasting ends when the new moon is sighted on the evening of the last day of Ramadhan. The actual sighting is conducted by state appointed religious officials at various vantage points (usually at hilltops) throughout the country.

If the crescent is sighted, the following day is then declared the first day of Aidilfitri, which is also the beginning of the 10th month of the Muslim calendar Syawal.

The Muslim community ushers in the first day of Aidilfitri by congregating at mosques for morning prayers. Everyone is usually decked out in their traditional best to mark the special occasion. Men are usually dressed in Baju Melayu, while the Baju Kurung, the quintessential Malay attire for females, is the prefered choice for the fairer sex.

Then it’s usually breakfast at home with the family, followed by a visit to the cemetery where deceased loved ones are remembered; graves are cleaned and cleared of overgrowth, and prayers are offered to Allah.

This is also a time to forgive and forget past quarrels. Asking for pardon is done in order of seniority. The younger members of a family approach their elders (parents, grandparents etc) to seek forgiveness, to salam (Muslim equivalent of a handshake), then kiss the hands of the older person as a sign of respect.

The usual greeting (that is uttered with the salam) during Aidilfitri is “Selamat Hari Raya”, which means “Wishing you a joyous Hari Raya”.

Children and old folks are given duit raya or gifts of money, in small envelopes. In recent years, many givers have opted for the Chinese practice of putting the money in ang pow packets; however instead of the usual red, the packets are green in colour.

Although the first three days are celebrated on a grander scale, many Muslims hold “open house” throughout the month, where friends and neighbours of other races are invited to join in the celebrations.

Bulan Ramadhan

Selamat mengerjakan ibadah puasa kepada semua umat islam. Bila masuk saja bulan puasa, rutin harian pun turut bertukar. Petang-petang boleh balik awal dari ofis, mencari makanan kat pasar ramadhan.

Ingat lagi,bulan puasa tahun lepas, rasanya kurang pahala puasa sebab selalu marah-marah dengan jem yang teruk di jalan.Iyalah, masa tu kan masih pakai kereta lama, dengan steering keras + gear manual + hentak sana hentak sini, sekarang syukurlah bawa kereta rasa macam duduk diam2 saja.Lantak pii la dengan jem. Puass hatii okeyy. Tak ada la sakit2 badan lagi ya. Balik kg pun senangg.

Apa pun, di bulan puasa ni kita bersihkan diri, bila diri sudah bersih barulah kita sambut kejayaan kita di aidilfitri, kembali ke fitrah asal kejadian manusia. Begitu uniknya ramadhan dan syawal, sama-sama kita menghayatinya.

Terus-terang, terlalu banyak tekanan dalam hidup ni. Semakin kita dewasa, semakin banyak masalah yang dihadapi dan perlu difikir.

Di tempat kerja? Ya Allah, Tuhan saja tahu bagaimana rasanya. Pelbagai jenis perangai orang terpaksa kita hadapi. Saya adalah seorang yang selalu bersangka baik kepada semua orang. Macamana buruk kelakuan seseorang, saya selalu cuba berfikir secara positif dan menidakkan kelakuan negatif orang itu.

Keadaan sekeliling betul-betul memaksa saya untuk tidak terlalu mempercayai orang 100% lagi.Kalau kita berkawan, kita mesti pastikan ada 'sempadan' supaya kita tidak terlalu berlebih-lebihan dengan sesorang itu. Di depan kita nampak baik, tapi di belakang?

Saya suka berkongsi apa sahaja dengan kawan. I preferred "sharing", since there is lot of benefits we can gained. I'am supporting sharing behavior. Tetapi, tidak semua perkara kita boleh kongsikan. I'am being forced to agree and to accept that :(

The bottom line is, setiap tindak-tanduk kita, perlakuan, tutur-kata, perlu mempunyai 'batas'. Walau macamana mesra kita dengan orang, kita mesti set satu boundary/border line antara kita dengan orang lain. Saya sangat tidak bersetuju dengan ini, tetapi itulah kenyataannya.

Playsafe kata orang. Sekali lagi saya langsung tidak bersetuju dengan 'playsafe'.

Bila bercakap mengenai sempadan, batasan, limitation, boundary which is saya memang tidak suka perkataan-perkataan ini. Ia seolah-olah menghalang dan menyekat kita untuk terus MARA ke depan.

Politik kalau terlalu berlebihan, seakan-akan memberikan ubat terencat kepada masyarakat kita....Sekadar renungan.

I am crying again

Time is running very fast u know, without realizing I will be working here for almost 1 year already. Hectic, busy.. That's I felt...Everybody who is contracted to any commitment will feel their carrier will burden themselves every moment and every seconds in their life. The spaces for them to breathe are very limited even during weekends.

Last week, we were very busy with the preparation of Majlis Sambutan Maulidur rasul, attending the 2 days kursus and in the same time the dekan wanna to see me for penilaian prestasi. When we were burden with the management tasks which supposed be not our kerja, rasa sakit hati oooo… The do not think kah we are here is appointed to be a teaching staff and also researcher, not to be burden with the kerani tasks!

Seeing the dekan on last Thursday & Friday is very bad experience for me. In our nilaian prestasi, we are being judge and evaluated from the following criteria:

1. Teaching

2. Research

3. Publishing

4. Conferences/ Seminar

5. Social works

6. Consultations

I think can score in teaching, attending kursus, social work and enroll myself to any committee. But what about my research? My publishing? My conferences? Consultation? Fuck la. Benci betul saya. As I mentioned before, we are very fuck here, to be assigned with some irrelevant bodoh punya kerja, just like being forced to leave or simply to forgot our core tasks as academician!, doing research! When the judgment day was coming, they will simply ask “apa juga kerja ko buat? Where your research? Paper? Sudah ada grant??” Apa saya kena jawap soalan mengalahkan soalan kubur.

People out there always seeing me hu ha hu ha hu ha hu ha, ketawa sana sini, feeling very happy and enjoy with my works, with my teaching, with my students, to be sincere konon to help some people sana. Sometimes they taught yang I ni mungkin tidak sepandai or not really intelligent enough like their SHIT brain, not really serious in my work field, but I betul2 tak sangka, bad people are everywhere. Tidak apa, today is your day and your day to underestimate and labeling me bodoh.

In front me Ya rabbi belakonnnn mengalahkan fauziah nawi belakon. You know, In front me, they will appear themselves in a very depressed, tension, pressure suck punya mood, they complaining lots of thing that they cannot cope up. When I’am asking something to them, they will say, oh noo..tiada…saya tiada buat, tidak sempat bah, saya takut ni…alalalala mati la..mataila..langsung saya tedaaaa buat ohhhh…

I think Allah wants to help me by showing the truth..because at last I know juga that certain people is very la penipu, a big liar, and also a good actor. They told me that they are doing nothing tapi sebenarnya…they just dont want to see me keep up on updating my prestasi over them! What a good attitude. I know it is all about politics, tidak apalah…Allah is very fair you know.

And now, I’am very feeling down, thinking it is better to kick me out from working here since my prestasi was very bad according to their evaluation. Tidak apalah, kalau rasa2 mau buang saya kerja pun saya tidak kisah bah because I sedarlah diri ini siapa kann….

Hello dear blog,

Oh Hisham, apa sudah jadi ni...Selalu juga tertanya-tanya kepada diri sendiri. Nda tau kenapa sejak sepanjang tahun 2010, otak ni terlalu fikirkan hal kerjaaaaaaaaaaa saja. Sudah juga dicuba untuk lupakan hal-hal kerja di hari-hari cuti, tapi rasanya fikiran ni nda boleh lari fikir hal-hal kerja yang belambak....Susah juga jadi orang yang 'caring' ni, semua benda saya mo concern and ambil tahu.

Lagi-lagi sekarang ni saya ada 8 orang pelajar untuk FYP. Semuanya buat tajuk saya. Pening saya fikir. Kadang-kadang rasa menyesal juga sebab bagi tajuk, tapi kalau saya biar mereka cari tajuk sendiri, kebanyakannya buat benda tiada faedah.

Memang terasa betul workload tahun ni. Memang betullah kerja2 ni kalau difikir memang selama-lamanya nda habis. Sometimes, kita kena fikir kalau kita kerja keras sekali pun, kita kena fikir apa strategiknya yang boleh kita dapat di masa hadapan....Some of my friends sempat lagi buat kelas part-time di kolej-kolej di hujung minggu....Gigih betul mencari duit. Kadang-kadang saya nda paham macamana diorang senang-senang lagi kasi tambah kerja di hujung minggu, nda cukup dengan kelas part-time di ums, buat la part time di luar...Diorang tidak penat kah...

New year 2010

I would like to wish happy new year 2010 to all readers. Most of all, everything has started 4 January 2010, not 1st January. Why? Of course due to the opening of new schools session, the new semester for IPTA, and the returns from a long journey of holidays. The year of 2010 officially commenced 4 Jan actually. I'm talking about other people because I'm working as usual during the holiday mood.

The school teachers especially, are very lucky people in this world. They got many holidays throughout the year. Sometimes I feel envy, how lucky them to become a teacher. Teacher's salary also quite high, just a few numbers to reach lecturer's salary. What is very interesting, is their working hours very very less, compared to us, we have complete 40 hours per week but teacher, they are only need to focus in teaching and of course to execute some of admin works as well as to manage students' activity. Then, loceng bunyi pukul 1, terus boleh balik lenggang2 bersama murid-murid.

Tapi, I still can't deny how big their responsibilities. Mendidik budak-budak pra-matang bukanlah mudah.

Okaylah, for this semester I was assigned with Artificial Intelligence subject, IT people called it as AI. To be honest, I'm not an AI people. My interest area actually are Human Computer Interaction and IT management. With over 80 students in my class, how I can personalize my teaching to everybody. Lagi-lagi subjek AI ni, bukan subjek teori....Kalau diorang nda dpt faham abisla aku...

Lately busy dengan macam-macam benda, dari family matters sampailah hal-hal kerja. Selalu juga terfikir mau update blog tapi nothing to share sangat. Sekarang ni students tengah busy ngan final exam, jadi we are so busy dengan hal-hal management la such as menguruskan pelajar yang mau pegi praktikal, menyiapkan paper work untuk masters coursework punya program, proposal untuk website latihan industri dan MQA documentation yang nda habis-habis.

Dan baru-baru ni ada memo checklist untuk fail meja. Ingatkan lecturer lain sebelum ni ada buat benda alah ni, konon bolehlah pegi cetak rompak. Tapi rupa-rupanya diorang pun nda pernah buat n nda tau pun norma-norma kerja diorang selama ni. Macamana tu..Disamping tu prepare teaching untuk semester depan; Artificial Intelligent, Database dan web technology kena prepare. Cakap pasal AI ni, ntahlah....terpaksalah. Buat-buat pandai sajalah, walaupun....

Bulan lepas pegi konvo. Macam biasalah. Tahniahlah kepada semua classmate masters dulu, semua sudah kerja. Ina kerja Pegawai IT, Ima, Lin and shima lecturer office management UiTM,Pak arab2 dengan berjayanya berambus ke tanah air diorang. Kaya bah diorang tu.

Thanks juga kepada lecturer2 masa masters dulu; terlalu banyak diorang share knowledge, and experinces. Dr.Fariza (the best supervisor in the world), Dr.Laila, en.Azizian, dr.Wan Adilah, Dr.Isa, Datin dr.Habibah, Prof. Hanafiah....Huh, beruntung betul FTMSK dapat lecturer2 macam ni. They are the real acedemician la...They taught us how to appreciate knowledge and exposing many research approaches in their teaching. Thank you so much.

Wahhhhh sudah lama tidak update blog. Semenjak awal ramadhan dulu sampai lah hari raya mo abis. Actually, banyak juga benda n cerita boleh di share, tapi kadang-kadang tu pandai lupa ler...

Oklah, habis cuti raya tempoh hari, at the following weekends (2-4 oct), kami orang, semua lecturer IT di UMS ada retreat untuk meng-dokumentasikan kursus-kursus IT mengikut standard MQA di Nexus Karambunai Resort. Biasalah, sebelum pergi sana, terpaksa prepare semua materials untuk dibincangkan. Jadi, memang sedikit busylah.

Abis jak retreat ari ahad, keesokan hari terus jak terbang ke KL. Ada urusan 'bagus' di Uitm Shah Alam. Aduhaii, terubat juga rindu ngan shah alam. Setiap sudut di shah alam tu sebenarnya memorable. Ada jak kenangannya.

Minggu depan terbang balik ke KL untuk konvokesyen. Berapa banyak konvo daaa....he he he he. Biasalah, bila sudah hujung2 tahun tu banyak pegi holiday jak.

Selamat hari merdeka ke 52 tahun. Cuti hujung minggu + merdeka dihabiskan sepenuhnya di kampung. Biasalah, tahun ni kan kira 1st ramadhan yang boleh spent sepenuhnya dengan family, selepas 7 tahun study.

Kerja dekat opis tetap menunggu. Rasa terbeban sungguh dengan penyediaan silibus untuk subjek-subjek baru, 3 subjek: Formal method in software engineering, XML programming dan system design. PLUS, nak kena ikut pulaaaaa standard dari MQA( Malaysian Qualification Agency)...Learning taxanomies la, student learning times la... Buat course content pun dah cukup memeningkan kepala.

Saya notis, banyak subjek-subjek baru yang diperkenalkan tu cukup complicated la; code optimization la, numerical analysis la, immune system la....memang kaw kaw drilled-down courses la. Kadang-kadang saya risau juga, benda-benda macam ni memerlukan penglibatan pakar-pakar khusus untuk membantu.

What to do kan..lagi2 bulan puasa ni, hectic semacam ja rasanya. Stay bujang2 di KK pun kurang sangat keseronokan berbuka n sahur. Lagi2 KK ni, jem sana, jem sini...Balik kerja pun rasa malasssss mo bersesak2 di bazaar ramadan, ngan cari parking lagi, punyalah hazabbbb...

Cakap pasal makanan di bazar ramadan..entahla, bila beli, tekak ni kadang-kadang susah mau telan. makanan kurang rasa lah, kuih nda manis la, air nda best la....macam-macam jak. last2 malas dah mo beli. Same thing bila makan kat kedai, ada jak rasa x kena di lidah...masak sendiri malas + nda pandai sgt. he he, tapi kalo komplen makanan org tu nombor 1 la...

Isunya sekarang ni, kalau sudah tau x pndai masak tu, jangan la ba pi gatal-gatal jual-jual makanan, buka kedai makan etc.....Sepatutnya lesen untuk berniaga makan ni x boleh sebarang boleh dapat la...sah-sah tukang masak main pungut saja, last-last makanan pun cam hampeh.

Perlu ada standardization or garis panduan ka, e.g makanan haruslah bercita rasa, unik, etc etc..N bila pihak berkuasa suda set kan standard baru n keluarkan lesen, diorang kenalah buat pantauan yang berterusan... ni kes mo jaga kualiti juga ba..semua pihak untung; customers puas hati, peniaga untung, kedai makan bley dpt ISO.....contohnya. Ni nda, x payah la rasa masakan dia, dari luar kedai saja saya bley tau tu kedai punya makanan sedap or x, jadi macamana?

UiTM Puncak Alam new campus: A solving for ikan sardin environment in main campus shah alam

During my 4 days vacation in KL from 14/8/09 to 18/8/1009, I had visited the new campus of UiTM in Puncak Alam, a main township in Kuala Selangor. It is about 30 kilometers from UiTM Shah Alam. Puncak Alam is a new town since a development plan started sometimes in 2008.
UiTM Puncak Alam currently supporting two faculties, if I'am not mistaken; Faculty of Health Science and Faculty of office management and technology. However, it will be expanded by 2014, comprising 15 faculties and accommodating 40,000 students and staff- this is current figure in UiTM Shah Alam yang sudah macam sardin dalam tin. Will Puncak Alam replace the main campus in Shah Alam?
What can I say, whatever it is, it is a good prospect lah. Just remember how the city of Shah Alam growing from the kampungan town, which formerly known as Sungai Renggam/ Batu Tiga, a centre of rubber and palm oil trade, transformed its layout to urban city yang bermaruah. And, UiTM occupied an entire section in the city known as section 1. Jual dan berniaga apa sajalah di sekitarnya, pasti duit masyuk. Rumah sewa,kedai makan, kedai fotostat, cc, buses, taxi...
Therefore, it is good prospect lah to operate business in Puncak Alam since from my observation, memang belum ada apa-apa lagi. Adalah 2-3 biji kedai runcit and gerai makan. The nearest town pun dekat Meru Klang, about 10 KM from Puncak Alam.

Projek Sampah

When I was student in Faculty of Computer and Mathematical Science (formerly known as FTMSK) UiTM, we live in a big family because we have 3 different computer departments(excluding mathematical programs) namely as:

System Science Department
Computer Science Department
Data Communication and Networking Department

As an IT student, we are clustered in Department of System Science as well as AI , ISE and BizComp students. In our department, we are more focusing on IT and ICT project management, Strategic ICT Planning, IT Business, IT ethics as well as technical skills in software development. Our stream is different from computer science department.

The computer science students are being trained to produce algorithms and the superb software. They highly stressed on the output, if they want an A, they will 'bermati-matian' to find out how to produce A as an output. They want to produce the most sophisticated software, the most canggih and intelligent.

In our department, we don't care with your output. How canggih your software, we are not interested to know. Of course we still need an output and the outcomes as well as our target, however, if our target is not achieved, we simply said "it is ok" because what is significant for us is, to know and to understand the surrounding issues and problems that actually happening. We got better understanding of problems and clearly seeing the root of the problems. We got know why it is happened and be able to justified it. We stressed on learning process and understanding.

When I worked under computer science department in UMS, it is quite difficult for me to divert my mind of interest to their approaches. When discussing about student's final year project, balik balik itulah, online system, online system, online system beribu-ribu kali. This guy develop sistem bas, this guy develop sistem tempahan tiket kapal terbang, this guy develop sistem social networking untuk sekolah bla bla bla yang macam friendster, and bla bla bla bla.... When I'am asked why you develop that kind of system, apa guna lagi ko develop sistem macam friendster, they cannot answer. Daripada ko pigi susah2 develop bagus ko buka group dekat friendster untuk sekolah ko tu lagi sanang saya bilang ha ha ha ha ha.

The objective yang biasa saya dengar 'untuk menggantikan sistem lama yang manual'. What type of objective macam tu? They cannot justify why they came out with that system. Yang diorang tau pigi develop (itu pun kalau pandai), atau pigi download codes kat internet, atau pigi ambil sistem senior-senior yang dulu-dulu, pastu mengaku buat sendiri. Lepas tu jadilah project sampah.

It is not necessarily to develop the whole things without any significant. As university student, they should be able to justify things. Your project should consider research element or value of research so it will be more meaningful and at least you can contribute something, walaupun sikit. Apa guna ko pegi buat projek yang orang lain sudah 20 tahun lepas dapat buat, unless you can enhance la. Entah2 ko punya projek lagi teruk dari sedia ada.

Visits from Universiti Malaysia Terengganu and Freshies induction

On 29th June, our faculty were having about 20 visitors from universiti malaysia Terengganu which formerly known as Kustem. Most of them are lecturers and some are IT technician from faculty of science and technology. The objectives of their visits are to have a look the facilities and technologies in our faculty, to share and exchange the idea and knowledge as well as to establish research collaboration and linkage between two universities.

I liked the term to collaborate or to know each other and to share idea, but I think if they wanted to see the tip top facilities and technologies, UMS is not only university they should visit. Visiting UMS is the only an academic agenda which they only spent half of the day from 4 days in Sabah. The other 3 days was spent in Pulau Sipadan at Semporna. Bijak bijak.....

Sharing

We did lots of sharing in our daily life. We shared surroundings, we shared environment and we shared things. However, the propensity to share and the the level of sharing willingness among people are different. A typical malay, did lots of sharing in their life. They shared foods, they shared recipies, they shared information. However, nowadays people do little sharing outside of their family and even within the family, the privatization behavior is increase.

Lately busy sangat siapkan macam-macam papers di bulan yang terakhir…Biasala, macam-macam saja lah. To date, busy untuk menghadap dua exam sabtu ni and satu lagi selasa depan. Pastu sambung lagi dengan final presentation on wimax n hantar research paper isnin berikutnya. Kadang-kadang, dah banyak sangat menghadap benda-benda macam ni, otak pun jadi blur…tu malam ni stop kejap, hadap internet dulu….

Banyak benda kena fikir. Pas 27/4 ni bolehla rilex 2 minggu before report duty di UMS 11/5. Dalam busy-busy ni juga la UMS sibuk minta itu dan ini. Kalo ikutkan, UMS suruh report duty 4/5 lagi, tapi gila apa..Non-stop aku. Tapi sekurang-kurangnya student masuk kampus bulan julai, jadi adalah masa sikit untuk buat preparation. Siapla budak2 IT SKTM kali ni….we will see..hehehehehehe

Mock Teaching

Lately, I’ am noticed and tracked there is some ‘google searches’ about ‘mock teaching uitm’ that hits my blog. Yes, I had mentioned about mock teaching in my previous posting but, not too specifically.

I thought, it is closely regarding to the UiTM ‘Tenaga Pengajar Muda’ (TPM) interviews that will be conducted within this month. Luckily, there are 2 friends of mine that chose to attend this interview on 24/3 and 25/3. I wish, best of luck.

Actually, I don’t have any experience about UiTM TPM interview. Previously, I’ am talking about my interview for lecturer post at Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) which required me to prepare mock teaching too.

Mock teaching is all about to teach and to present on the particular topic in front of interview panels. You can bring and use any teaching materials, for example power point slides. The duration of mock teaching is depends on your teaching contents. My advice, preparing 10-15 slides is possible.

The topic of your presentation is hardly based on your Special Interest Group (SIG). For example, if you’re SIG is Database, so your teaching scope should be in the boundary of database area. Actually, SIG is your research interest area. You can present part and partial of your research area in mock teaching.

Actually, mock teaching is nothing compared to the real interview just after you have done your mock teaching. I don’t sure in UiTM, but at UMS they conducted mock teaching and interview separately. From my experience, when I’ am done mock teaching, the panels informed me what types of questions that will be asked at the second stage of interview.

The ‘core’ question is why you want to be a lecturer?, what is your planning when you become a lecturer, what is the roles of lecturer, and some sort of questions to test your basic knowledge. For example, what is Human Computer Interaction, what is robotics technology, what is intelligent system. Only what what what and what. The questions is very simple, but the way you to answer those questions hardly depends on the degree of nervousness during the interview. Sometimes you know the answer, but you cannot express your understanding in a concise and exact word. You can even blank to introduce your life background.

Success atau tidak, itu nasiblah. Tapi zaman-zaman sekarang ni, most of people use 'cabelity' instead of 'capability' untuk measure orang...Entahla labu...

PPSMI

Tertarik dengan berita semalam, 5,000 orang penunjuk perasaan buat kecoh dekat Masjid Negara sabtu lalu berkeras untuk menyerah memorandum menghapuskan PPSMI kepada Yang di-pertuan Agong.

Apa sudah jadi dengan PPSMI sebenarnya? Masih tak habis-habis dengan isu selepas 6 tahun dilaksanakan.

Mempelajari matematik dan sains memerlukan lebih pemahaman. Budak-budak kita, belajar dalam bahasa melayu pun susah nak paham, apa lagi dalam english. Budak-budak yang sememangnya liat nak paham akan bertambah-tambah liatnya dan bertambah kuranglah minatnya. Inilah komplen yang selalu kedengaran dari mulut cikgu-cikgu di sekolah. Sebenarnya di sinilah peranan cikgu. Mereka sepatutnya lebih tahu untuk ’tackle’ masalah ni. Apa guna jadi cikgu kalau tak pandai mengajar dan mendidik?

Bila timbul isu-isu macam ni, masing-masing macam tak nak bertanggungjawab. PM cuma arah isu diselesaikan dengan segera, tak nak isu jadi besar. Sebagai seorang PM, apa sebenarnya pendiriannya terhadap isu ni? Kemudian bila tanya dekat Menteri Pelajaran, oooo ini bukan kuasa Kementerian Pelajaran la, ini kena bawa bincang dekat kabinet la, kena revise la. Apa pula pendirian Kementerian Pelajaran yang 100% bertanggunjawab terhadap PPSMI? Selama PPSMI dilaksanakan, tak ada apa-apa tindakan ke untuk mengawal-selia pelaksanaan? Bila isu timbul, terus tak tahu nak cakap apa.

Ini namanya pelaksanaan tanpa persediaan. Tak cukup perancangan. Tapi masalahnya, sampai bila nak tunggu orang-orang kita nak bersedia kalau kita tak push?

Idea kita memang bagus-bagus. Kalau boleh, semua benda kita nak implement. Tapi sayangnya “readiness” kita masih belum cukup lagi.

CGPA

Last night, while having my dinner, I received SMS from one of my buddies who studied together during Diploma at Sarawak 3 Years ago and also furthered for Bachelor degree. He told me he just finished the study and he got 2.88 CGPA. He is asking, which class he will be categorized because he going to apply Kursus Perguruan Lepasan Ijazah (KPLI). Then I informed you will be in second class (lower).

When we talking about CGPA, I remember the way of UiTM in calculating the student’s CGPA. Once student failed the paper and repeat again the paper, only the new grad will be accounted. Failed the paper doesn’t make any bad effect at all to the CGPA. The more you repeat and getting the better grad, the better CGPA you will got.

Actually, this system has leaded some unfairness. For example Azmi got B and Ali got D in one subject. When Ali repeated, he got an A and of course he also got the better CGPA than Azmi. Those who ever repeat the subject will get the better CGPA than those who never repeat. The transcript is not longer showing your fail grad.

Why to forgive those who ever failed? Let them to learn the lesson. Normally student will say “lantakla, gagal pun bukan effect pun kat pointer, boleh repeat and repair”. See?

“They” are encouraging students to repeat the paper, to get the better pointer even though the students are lousy. When came for an interview and then failed to perform like they performed better from their “Repaired CGPA”, The Interviewer will going to suspect something is wrong. You got CGPA of 3.5 but you are not truly reflected it? Why type of graduates UiTM is produced?

“They” are encouraging students to extend the semester. The longer, the better, more money can be earned.

Case Study

One of my friends who worked at private sector always complaining about his boredom and laziness at workplace. He told me that he is already tired and boring with his repetitive task, replying e-mail, replying e-mail, replying e-mail and only replying e-mail to respond and to solve customer problems. No challenge, he said. Furthermore, he needs to work according to shift with the uncertainty of leaves given. It is unpredictable. Two days off are given per week but it can be Monday and Friday, Sunday and Wednesday and so on, based on shift schedules given. The salary is about RM 1,800 per month. He also told me he wants stability in his career. Working at government sector will be the first priority and the most things he dream for. He questioning me, how come I can buy a car or anything else if I’ am still working at private sector, with uncertainty situation.

In my opinion, working at an established company with the reasonable salary with less tension and pressure at workplace (what type of tension if only to reply e-mail?), is nothing to think. As he is a fresh graduate without any working experience, getting such work should make he feels lucky enough. With the economy turmoil and the scenario of more than 80 thousands unemployed graduates in our country is too enough for him to think why he should remain working at that company, unless he got better offer la.

Everyone is preferred stability in their life. However, it doesn’t means only if you working with the government you become stable already. Just, don’t block your mind by saying only working with the government then you can buy things and feels your life better. If your age already 40 but you still not employed with the government, will you remain static with your principle, while looking others already achieved lot of things in their life from their continuous improvement.

Sekarang ni kampus tengah cuti seminggu. Bandaraya “terancang” Shah Alam,walaupunnnnn, sunyi sepi tanpa umat-umat pelajar UiTM. Agak-agak kedai Mamak Hakim yang banyak peminat tu pun boleh gulung tikar kalo UiTM ni tiba-tiba bungkus.Terpaksa la pekerja-pekerja import tu berambus balik Negara asal. We are actually their money generator.

Oklah. Cakap pasal cuti tahun baru cina ni, banyaklah yang ambil kesempatan untuk pegi vacation. Kalau orang-orang sini ni, bolehlah pulang ke kampung. Tapi kami Sabah n Sarawak ni terpaksalah stay saja di Bandaraya berhantu ni. My housemates ada juga yang pegi camping.

Me? Pergi berjalan adalah satu pilihan. Bajet memang tidak mengizinkan. Yuran yang ribu riban + house rental + bills +barang-barang keperluan, nafsu makan yang membuak-buak + kaki yang sikit2 pegi bejalan duduk di kedai kopi + window soping (window la sangat tapi tangan pandai buka window, beli terus) + movie + laundary + bayar insurans motorsikal n roadtax + bla bla bla bla, yang menyebabkan bajet bulan Januari ni sottttt. No provision for any vacation la.

Perbelanjaan cuti dan tak cuti memang berbeza. Kononnya cuti boleh stay di rumah, tapi sebenarnya cuti ni la yang membuatkan kaki ni bertambah gatal pergi berjalan. Berbezalah dengan bukan cuti which we spent masa 10 hari seminggu (orang lain 7 hari) di fakulti, buat kerja + kerja + kerja + kerja, jadi belanja tu kurang skitla. Nasiblah cuti hanya seminggu. Bukannya ada pokok duit pun yang boleh dipetik or duit turun dari langit yang boleh bagi aku makan. Lain cerita la orang2 yang ada scholarships(orang2 pandai) n ada loans yang selagi ada tempat boleh buang duit, mau saja di tabur-tabur.

Tapi biasala, student zaman sekarang ni kan kaya-kaya. Lihat sajala uitm di shah alam ni, semester ni buat pertama kali aku lihat time lunch break jam 1 jalan dalam kampus jemmmmmmm kuat, bersusun ja kreta smpai kolej mawar. Ya la, lunch hour, tapi bekurun-kurun aku di uitm shah alam sampai jadi super senior ni, tak pernah pula aku tengok lunch hour pun jem macam tu? Biasa jem pun waktu2 petang jam 5-6 saja.

Jumlah student bertambah lagi la tu. Kebanyakan pun memiliki kenderaan sampai parking staff pun dirembat. Biasalah, sekarang kan dah ada graduate scheme untuk beli kreta with 0 downpayment, 1 guarantor. Sepatutnya untuk graduated yang baru bekerja, tapi yang sibuk-sibuk pergi kemaruk dengan scheme tu student-student kita yang not graduate ni la ya sampaiiii sesssssakkkkkkkk kampus. Pastu monthly payment, parentsss jugaaaaaaaaa.

Tapi jangan salahkan gak kenapa student-student ni lebih prefer bawa kreta sendiri. Dengan keadaan UiTM Shah Alam yang tak mesra alam untuk berjalan kaki, berbukit-bukit, plus kemudahan pengangkutan yang mengalakkan kepada maksiat. Ehehhehhe. Kenapa maksiat? Sebab kita terpaksa berhimpit-himpit laki dan perempuan, tergesel sana sini. Lagipun bas pun laju-laju, suka buat roller coaster yang menyebabkan ramai yang jatuh tergolek. Tak kurang yang terkepit pintu. Pastu tak kurang jadi si bodoh tunggu bas berkurun-kurun tak sampai-sampai dan macam-macam lagila...Jadi kesimpulannya, jangan salahkan student juga.

Pihak pengurusan? Jangan cakapla. Kita ada banyak kepakaran.contoh, Kita ada Fakulti Teknologi Maklumat dan Sains Kuantitatif yang gah + banyak orang2 pakar walaupunnn, tapi sistem-sistem komputer masih tahap longkang. Kita ada Fakulti Seni Bina dan seni ukur yang mengeluarkan arkitekk maha hebat, tapi bangunan-bangunan yang dibina dalam kampus pun retak situ sana sini. Kepakaran2 yang tidak digunakan orang bilang. Meeting saja beribu-ribu kali, bla bla bla bla bla tapi hasil ntah ke mana.

Orang Malaysia sangat terkenal dengan budayanya yang bersopan-santun, berbudi-pekerti dan beradap sopan. To sustain our nice local identity is not easy and become the challenges nowadays.

Orang-orang kita juga sememangnya cukup terkenal dengan sifat kurang kesabaran secara negative, cepat naik angin, suka bercakap kasar serta kurang ajar, kurang beretika dalam beberapa hal, suka membuang masa, malas bekerja dan banyak lagi. Begitu ramai orang yang no manners ni.

Our negative culture, it is very difficult to change. Mengikut kajian, salah satu faktor orang kita tidak sabar secara negative adalah disebabkan faktor cuaca di Negara kita yang panas dan suka memakan makanan yang pedas-pedas.

Tidak perlu jauh dan susah-susah, anda boleh lihat perangai-perangai orang kita semasa memandu di jalan raya. Setahu saya, semua pemandu-pemandu di jalan raya semestinya mempunyai lesen memandu. Untuk mendapatkan lesen memandu tersebut pastinya melalui proses-proses pengajaran secara teori dan praktikal. Kita di ajar untuk menjadi seorang pemandu yang berhemah, cekap, dan kenal kepada undang-undang.

Tetapi kenapa orang-orang kita tidak mengamalkannya? Research question for you.

Pelbagai enforcement sudah pun dilaksanakan sebagai langkah-langkah untuk mengurangkan kadar kemalangan jalan-raya dan mengurangkan kadar kecederaan semasa kemalangan, yang terbaru memakai tali pinggang keselamatan di tempat duduk belakang kenderaan.

Secara positif, ia adalah satu langkah keselamatan yang baik untuk dilaksanakan. Pihak berwajib kita telah melaksanakan pelbagai langkah positif untuk mengurangkan kadar kemalangan jalan raya. Undang-undang di situ sana sini.

Tetapi jika ’awareness’ di kalangan orang kita untuk mematuhi peraturan masih kurang, semua itu tak akan ke mana. Ini berbalik kepada culture kita sendiri yang sudah sebati di dalam diri.

Para cerdik pandai bertanggungjawab untuk mencari serta mengkaji kaedah-kaedah sesuai, peraturan-peraturan yang paling sesuai untuk dilaksanakan dengan mengambil kira culture sebagai consideration.

Kalau undang-undang yang standardize yang kita guna-pakai masa kini masih tidak mempengaruhi orang-orang kita untuk mematuhi, apakah jenis undang-undang yang boleh digubal yang membolehkan ia benar-benar sesuai dengan culture orang kita? Another research question for you...

As I mentioned before, culture amat sukar untuk diubah. Cara alternative lain adalah dengan mengkaji, explore, serta mencari pendekatan-pendekatan yang boleh disesuai dengan budaya-budaya negative kita. Manalah tahu, jikalau ada pendekatan-pendekatan yang baru serta unik boleh mengubah budaya negative ini kepada positif?

Ini bermakna, ia bukan sahaja menyelesaikan permasalahan yang ada, malah berupaya untuk mengubah serta mendidik orang-orang kita ke arah yang lebih positif.

Kes kemalangan jalan raya yang saya bincangkan di atas, adalah case-study sahaja di mana our negative-culture boleh dilihat. Tidak termasuklah budaya di tempat kerja, di tempat-tempat social, di pusat-pusat pengajian, di alam cyber?

Kota Kinabalu oh Kota Kinabalu

Sabah terkenal sebagai sebuah destinasi yang maju di dalam pelancongan. Sepanjang bercuti saya sempat mengunjungi dua buah pusat pelancongan iaitu Kinabalu Pine Resort di Kundasang dan Mimpian Jadi Resort di Tuaran.

Kundasang menurut Wikipedia adalah sebuah kampong yang terletak 6 KM daripada Taman Kinabalu yang terkenal dengan tanaman sayur-sayuran, dan dekat dengan Gunung Kinabalu dan mempunyai pemandangan yang indah. Populasi utama ialah suku kaum dusun dan sedikit kaum cina.

Pun begitu, bagi saya tiada yang lebih indah di Kundasang melainkan merasai suhunya yang sejuk dan segar sepanjang masa. Keaslian dan keunikan tempatnya juga masih terasa. Tidak seperti di tempat-tempat lain yang sibuk dengan pembangunan sana dan sini yang tidak terancang.

Lihat sajalah Kota Kinabalu sekarang. Sememangnya kelihatan maju dengan pembangunan tetapi apa yang saya lihat, konsep pembangunan yang konon ala-ala KL tu sebenarnya amatlah menyesakkan sehingga menjejaskan keunikan Jesselton.

Bukanlah anti kepada pembangunan, tetapi pembangunan haruslah terancang, mesra alam dan mengekalkan konsep hijau. Lagi-lagi bila Kota Kinabalu dirancang untuk dijadikan Bandar pusat membeli-belah, maka lagi terserlahlah untuk menjadikan KK ini sebagai KL. Perkembangan positif dari sudut ekonomi tetapi keseimbangan pembangunan perlulah difikirkan juga.

Tidak guna pembangunan bukan main gah dan grand hanya di sebuah tempat, tetapi kemudahan infrastruktur di tempat-tempat lain masih ditahap yang memalukan.

Dan tidak guna juga mempunyai bangunan yang cantik-cantik dan grand jikalau cara pemikiran orang kita yang selalu ke belakang dan negative.

I'am too small

Yesterday saya attend interview untuk post lecturer utk SKTM di UMS. Yes, saya memang ada menghantar semua butiran diri ke sana sebelum ini, tetapi tidaklah expect mereka akan panggil interview awal since I'am only finished on May 2009.

I'am not very sure bagaimana sistem UMS sebenarnya. Mereka hanya memaklumkan interview tersebut sehari sebelum interview, itu pun petang, main call saja. Saya diberitahu supaya prepare mock teaching. Preparation last minit memang amat menyusahkan saya since saya paling tidak suka untuk tidur lambat sangat.

Jadi apa yang sempat prepare, itu sajalah yg ada. Material untuk mock teaching sekadar part and partial of my thesis, lebih paham.

Interview was held dekat bangunan canseleri. Bila sampai sana, adalah lebih kurang 10 orang sedang menunggu. Cerita sana and cerita sini buat saya rasa amat terlalu kecil dan terlalu junior di sana. Salah seorang yang perlu saya saingi ialah bekas timbalan dekan di salah sebuah fakulti di USM yang mempunyai pengalaman mengajar selama 6 tahun. Semua calon terlalu hebat dan amat senior-senior belaka secara tidak langsung membuatkan saya meletakkan 0% harapan untuk interview ini plus tiada cukup preparation.

I don't any problem in mock teaching sebab belajar master secara kerja kursus telah membuatkan saya begitu muak dengan presentation setiap minggu. Dua orang panel yang menilai mock teaching tersebut pun ok juga, n pada mulanya mereka tidak bertanya apa-apa selepas saya mengajar. Tetapi menjadi habit saya di uitm yang selalu mengakhiri apa-apa pembentangan dengan "any question?", dan saya terlepas cakap selepas mock teaching...Duhhhhhhhhhhh... lalu ditanyalah soalan bertalu-talu.

Then, lepas teaching tu barulah real interview menghadapi 4 orang panel. Salah seorang dari mereka ialah Dekan SKTM tu sendiri. Rasa gugup jangan cakaplah. Dalam beberapa interview yang pernah attend before, yang ni amat terlalu sangat gila gila punya gugup lah. Punyalah darah gemuruh rasa macam saluran darah ni mo pecah and memancutkan darah-darah. Hehehehe.

It is not that easy lah, tapi saya percaya pada diri sendiri and kalo ada rezeki ia tak akan ke mana. Ayat stereotaip la sangat.....

Engagement

When you’re engaged, you’re about encountering in another phase of your life. I can understand an engagement as a pre-marriage, a very deep and final preparation towards marriage. You might say she/he is your soul-mate, I love you, you love me, sehidup semati and all over. Lots of janji-janji manis mu lah and kata-kata indahla at this phase.uwekkkkkkkkk

In-fact, I think majority ( sorry, I’am not statistically state out figure) of couples does not know who exactly their partner. To me, it is very compulsory to recognize as much as possible your lover. Show-off everything about yourself (bad and good) and be transparent with your lover…Your lover must know who you are, can accept anything about you and vice versa.

Most of them only recognize their partner after married..sebab tu la lepas kawin banyak ja komplen. Maka kedengaranla ayat ni, eeee dulu dia x macam ni, eeee saya tidak sangka dia macam tu, and blab la bla bla… But it is ok lah if you can accept and considerable..cinta punya pasal kunun…Tapi jika ada benda yang you cannot accept maka ia akan disimpan dalam hati, makan hati, and lama2 you may burst and the worst case is divorce lah sepertilah yang kita lihat pada dunia hari ini…

Hey…berleter lagi. Just want to wish selamat bertunang to my soul-cousin wai, yang baru bertunang sabtu lepas. Hantaran RM10,000, seekor kerbau and sebentuk cincin. Mahal perempuan sekarang, ngada-ngada betul.

Majalah Bytes...

Muka depan

Akhirnya, Majalah sulung FTMSK yang dijenamakan sebagai Bytes telah sedia untuk tatapan pembaca khususnya warga FTMSK. Mengikut penjadualan, majalah ini sepatutnya dikeluarkan selewat-lewatnya pada bulan julai lalu tetapi atas beberapa masalah yang berlaku di peringkat tertentu, majalah ini hanya dapat dikeluarkan pada bulan ini.

Saya adalah salah seorang AJK yang bertanggungjawab untuk menerbitkan majalah ini. Tugas saya sebagai wartawan hanyalah untuk mencari bahan-bahan berita berkaitan FTMSK dan kemudian menyerah bahan berita kepada pengumpul maklumat.

Walau bagaimana pun, tugas untuk mengumpul maklumat seperti itu tidaklah sesusah mana. Kesusahan terletak kepada orang yang terakhir yang bertanggungjawab untuk “finalize” sebelum ia dihantar untuk dicetak. Mereka-mereka yang terlibat untuk finalize termasuklah Zul yang bertanggungjawab 100% atas design majalah ini dan juga Fahmi sebagai Ketua Editor yang terpaksa membuat proses-proses terakhir sebelum ia dibenar untuk publikasi di FTMSK. Tidak tahulah berapa kali mereka ini terpaksa membuat pembetulan ke atas kesalahan yang dilakukan selepas dikomen oleh orang-orang atasan.

Alhamdulillah, the semester (only me and few friends) will be ended on this coming Saturday closed with the web programming test. I’ am successfully passing through all kinds of unexpected challenges and uncertainty situation. I will never care to the result that will be graded on me. I and my team have already tried our best, spending almost 100% of our life to commit with lots of coursework assigned to us.

We worked very hard to accomplish all those things, ensuring every single task in right order. To produce a good work, team member is one of the factors and luckily I have the greatest team members in the world. This appreciation is highly dedicated to Mrs. Sharidatul Akma and Mrs. Haslina. I’ am very proud of their courage, efforts and commitment in the way they work. I can describe them as enthusiasm and very workaholic people.

And Alhamdulillah, Ina ( Haslina) has delivered the first baby on 22 October 2008 which the same date with her birthday though the due is expected on 10 November 2008.Congratulation anyway. And on previous monday, we have visited her and the baby named as Mohamad Alif Hakim, and Syukur everything is ok lah.

And Insya Allah next semester will be my final sem for my masters. There will be no class conducted anymore; reversely I will conduct my own classes. I need to commit 100% on my research, titled as “persona” in bla bla bla bla…Hopefully, Allah will help me. Amin……

Ilmu

Sejak kecil, kita telah dididik dengan pelbagai ilmu dari sekolah rendah kemudian ke sekolah menengah dan kemudian di peringkat universiti. Kita lebih diajar untuk mendapatkan keputusan yang cemerlang semasa ujian ataupun peperiksaan berbanding mendalami ilmu itu sendiri.

Budaya menghafal nota, meramal soalan-soalan peperiksaan dan yang sewaktu dengannya hanyalah bertujuan untuk lulus peperiksaan ataupun mendapatkan keputusan yang cemerlang semasa peperiksaan.

Budaya inilah yang diterapkan kepada kita sejak dahulu dan juga kepada pelajar-pelajar masa kini. Sikap-sikap ini menular serta terbawa-bawa ke universiti sehingga kita tidak sedar budaya ini telah menghapuskan budaya menuntut ilmu dikalangan pelajar.

Tuntutlah ilmu sepanjang masa. Belajar bukan hanya di sekolah dan di universiti kemudian titik noktah apabila tamat pengajian. Ia proses yang dilakukan sepanjang hayat.

Sudah sampai masa sistem pendidikan di Negara melakukan suatu perubahan agar budaya mementingkan ilmu diterapkan sekuat-kuatnya kepada generasi baru kita, bukan hanya mengajar untuk menjawab soalan-soalan ramalan, melatih-tubi berbuku-buku semata-mata untuk medapatkan 20A ataupun sebanyak mana A di dalam peperiksaan.

Study is all about research, not only to pass the examination. Mengkaji, mengkaji, mengkaji serta mendalami pelbagai ilmu.

Set in our mind that great scholars do not solve problems but they create them.

Dear gentle reader,

I just want to inform that I'am in progress on works settlement until 1^st November. Because of the parallel of tasks and shortage of time given, I’am now crossing at ‘out of line coverage area’.

I need some space to breath and move. Due to this time unavailability,mood unstability, routines unconsistency and whatever un un un lity, I would like to beg everybody’s sorry for some promises could not fulfilled, some of wedding, engages and aidilfitri open house invitation could not attend and of course kepada sorang budak yang merajuk sebab tidak sempat kasi kawan dia pegi beli laptop and whatever forgotten things lah.

I had returned to Shah Alam since last Monday. I will review the Hari Raya celebration later. By the way, coming back to the campus mode has destroyed the Hari Raya mood so I can’t write it up at this particular moment.

My classmates were very busy to finish up the spider-map of literature conceptual which scheduled to be submitted on Wednesday and I’ am still didn’t start on anything. However, Ina gave me some idea how and where to start. Thanks Ina.

I just do the assignment at home because my rider is not so stable at that moment; my housemate had crashed it during the Hari Raya break!! It is still working but I felt it is not so safe enough to fit my confidence to ride it. There was something wrong in handling system even HE told me everything is already fine. I know better my bike so please…..

Just after complete my daily work on Wednesday; I with my ‘big mem’ went to Midvalley, seeing her’s cousin to pass some stuff from Kuching. We actually want go back to Shah Alam just after the matter however the time is already 5 PM. I don’t want to drive at this peak hour!! Please la…so we decided to pick-up any movies that can be watched, while waiting for the traffic to clear.

Flight of the Living Dead: Outbreak on a Plane is a 2007 zombie film by director Scott Thomas. It is seemingly playing off of the concept of Snakes on Plane, the film involves a Boeing 747 infested with zombies of the Dawn of the Dead remake variety, capable of moving quickly and leaping.

Some information for you dear gentle reader, the film was originally titled Plane Dead, but the title was changed at Montreal's 2007 Fantasia festival screening. However, in spite of a successful screening there and at other festivals, the film did not gain a commercial release and was issued directly to DVD in unrated form.

As overall, I can rate this movie 3 out of 5. It didn’t impress me as much as usual.

Some synopsis for you :

On a flight from Los Angeles to Paris, a mad scientist on the run from the CIA is transporting a coffin containing the body of a colleague infected with a genetically modified virus. While the 747 crosses a violent thunderstorm, the instability of the aircraft allows the corpse to get out of its container. The flesh-eating zombie quickly starts to spread the virus, infecting many of the passengers.

The New Terminal 1 of Kota Kinabalu International Airport(KKIA)

My last time flying with Malaysia Airlines (MAS) was on December 2007 where the makeovers of the Terminal 1 are still under construction. Flying with Air Asia will disembark you at the Terminal 2, just like LCCT for Air Asia and KLIA for MAS.

Today, the new terminal building (cost about RM1.4 Billion) is already in use since its opening on 19 August 2008. It is to be said as one step closer to completion since the landscapes layout and the flyovers are still “situ sana sini” and yet, the airport's redevelopment actually also included the extension of the runway to 3,780m and a full-length taxiway scheduled to be completed next year.

Pre-Hari Raya 1

I wonder why the parents are so busy during this ramadan. What a hectic ramadan they have. I'am arrived at home from KK around 6 where the sisters are busy serving the dishes for berbuka and the childs are still playing around.

Everybody is there except my father. My mum said he needs to attend the Majlis Berbuka Puasa at somewhere which she is also not very sure where it is. But my mum told me my father mostly spent the berbuka time at the majlis majlis berbuka and continued with terawih prayer. The time now is 1.59am but he still not home yet. Where he gone? Is the terawih still not finished yet? I don’t think so.

Today, one of my sister will fly to KL celebrating the aidilfitri with her’s husband family. The flight will be around 7.30pm. Again, my father had earlier confirmed with the family that he couldn’t come with us to say good bye to the sister because he managed to attend one another majlis berbuka at bla bla bla bla with si polan si polan. I don’t think so the majlis berbuka is strictly compulsory for him to attend till denying the other things.

I hope he will spend one of the berbuka puasa with us, especially me, before the ramadan end.

Bits and pieces : Balik kampong

Now I’am on beginning of my raya’s break. It will be from 25/9(Thu) until5/9(Sun), as Hari Raya expected falls on 1^st October (Wed) and I was in Kota Kinabalu since 11.50PM last night. I’ am still stuck in Kota Kinabalu during typing this post and still waiting someone who can take me home to complete my balik kampong journey.

Again, when the holiday is coming, it is also will break all my assignments’ progress and everything correlated to my academic activities will be temporarily stopped. The break will be 11 days in all and there will be 3 week left for us to complete everything just after raya and before the semester fully ended.

I had planned everything since at the beginning of semester which it is very nicely written in my organizer but I’am now realized that everything is already out of plan. The missing gap is very significant since it is never happened before, either during my diploma and degree which I preferred to set everything is free before balik kampong. The Hari Raya will be more delightful when every work is timely settled; else you need to sacrifice your Hari Raya to cover on whatever is already left behind.

The major factor is that, I loosed to somewhere else when my notebook is in comma for more than a month. But this is not the matter of no PC can be used to do all the assignments. It is all about the progressing works stuck inside my notebook. No back-up to recover, except only for the one folder, but a lot files are still missing. While sending my notebook to Highpoint for repairs is really time-consuming due to the shortage of some parts and cost me lots.

Due to the high cost of notebook recovery, everybody has suggested me to buy a new laptop instead of proceed it for repairs. However, buying a new one will cost me double and I really cannot afford for it, as now is not the right time to have a new one yet. But, thanks for everybody’s concerns, helps and supports. Merci!!

Oklah. As our blessed ramadhan is nearly leaving us, and the glorious shawal comes in, I would like to wish Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri, maaf zahir dan batin to all my friends. Aidilfitri is the best time to be with your family, sitting together while working on Hari Raya preparation; baking cakes and cookies, making some refreshment on home decoration, preparing garments for raya prayer …and so many things else. But actually, the pre-hari raya period of time especially on malam raya to me is much enjoyable than at the day of raya itself.
